Slido - amplifying student voice

There are a number of tools that provide a "backchannel" for students to participate in a lesson by asking questions anonymously. I am a huge fan of enabling quieter students, the ones who slip under the radar, to have their say and have a 'safe' way to ask questions and participate.

Slido is great way to collect responses from students or any audience – you can get questions from the crowd/class and moderate, then display them, as well as running live polls.

Poll types include multiple choice, open text or rating

Open text responses can be displayed as a word cloud which is a great way to aggregate responses. Multiple choice responses update live in real-time which is a great way to check for understanding.

Here is a quick overview

You can group questions together (paid version) so participants can do more than one question at a time.

People get involved by going to slido.com on any device connected to the web and entering a code for your event (which you can customise eg #easthigh)

The free version allows only 3 questions per event and does not give you the option to moderate questions - so everything asked will be displayed (profanity filters are there!)
