Assign a video task with Office 365 tools

It is becoming more and more common for students to want to express their learning through video. It is their medium of choice to consume and now increasingly to share their ideas.

One of the principles of assessment I hold dear is allowing students the freedom to express their learning in the way that works for them. This could be written, a play, a song, a poem, a picture or a video. The last option opens up a world of possibilities for students to use digital tools in creative and innovative ways. Some possibilities here:

  • A simple monologue
  • A screen recording of an explanation of their solution to a problem
  • A screen recording of a pitch with visuals from Sway
  • A Powtoon video
  • A project that brings together multiple media in Video editor
This post is about how to use Office 365 tools to assign, collect and give feedback on a video as a response to a task. Email is not going to work! The file size of videos is simply too large.

This workflow is for when you don't want students to see each others videos. If you do - Flipgrid is a great option.
