Search Coach in Teams

Student skills in accessing, evaluating and using information with integrity have never been more important than right now. A vital part of any student learning is being able to research well using online sources - Microsoft has a new tool in Search Coach that makes this easier.

Search Coach is built into Microsoft Teams and is simple to add to a Class Team. Microsoft say that "It is designed to teach students how to compose efficient search queries and evaluate their results. The patterns taught in Search Coach can be applied in traditional search engines like Bing and Google, as well as academic search engines."

Getting started

From the general channel of any class, select +.

Search for and select Search Coach.

Select Add then select Save.

Search Coach will appear as a tab app in your class. Repeat these steps for any additional classes you want students to have Search Coach in.

How it works

Some excellent features:
  • No ads
  • Safe search on
  • Search skills to the fore - with domain, file type, date range, operators and fact check front-and-centre

  • Customisable background
  • Insights into search - how many searches, % first link clicked only, what domains, what search terms is the class using. All really valuable insights teachers can't usually access.
For younger learners, this is a great option.
